Pedra Relief Africa
- Pedra Relief Africa is a charitable non-profit corporation registered in the province of Ontario, Canada.
- Its registered general purpose is ‘To relieve poverty in developing nations by providing food and other basic supplies to persons in need’.
- PRA is focussed on central Mozambique, because most of its members have lived and worked there. It also works exclusively with legally registered local organizations—Mozambicans who live there, know the people and their needs and priorities, the relevant government policies and procedures, and how to get things done efficiently.
- The work is monitored by an independent colleague from Maputo, the capital city, a Mozambican professional who visits the work sites quarterly in-person, and reports in detail to us in Canada.
- There are so many things to supply that will relieve poverty. PRA and its Mozambican partners often work in the field of education, since few things correlate more strongly with a rise out of poverty than education does. Our partner organizations provide school supplies, and teaching in literacy, life skills, and vocational fields.
- When necessary, they may also supply emergency food supplies.
- Our partners work mostly with orphaned or abandoned children, widows, girls aged ten and older, prisoners, those with HIV-AIDS, and, these days, those with Covid-19.
Note: Registration of Pedra Relief Africa as a charity under the Income Tax Act of Canada is pending.
